A Contemplative Experience of Prayer, Meditation and Song Presented by the Spiritual Life Committee at St. Anselm
Come for a unique evening of contemplative prayer in the community atmosphere at St. Anselm’s Parish Chapel. These evenings of prayer and song will use a format developed at the Taize’ Community of France. It includes Psalm singing and chanting in English and Latin, Scripture reading, silent meditation and prayer around the Crucifix. Psalm 133: 1 - "Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity as one!" Taize' Prayer is an ecumenical meditative service, where one invites God's presence to penetrate one's innermost being. This form of prayer comes from the Christian monastic community of Taize', located in the heart of the Burgundy region in France. A Place to Meet God - Psalm 46 - “Be Still and know that I am God.”
"Nothing is more conducive to communion with the Living God than a meditative common prayer with singing that never ends, but continues in the silence of one's heart, when one is alone again." - Brother Roger of Taizé - founder of Prayer Community “In the common prayer, the spirit of praise gives glimpses of the invisible. And within you comes welling up the wonder of a love.” - Brother Roger of Taizé - founder of Prayer Community "Singing is one of the most important forms of prayer. A few words sung over and over again reinforce the meditative quality of the prayer. They express a basic reality of faith that can quickly be grasped by the intellect, and that gradually penetrates the heart and the whole being. These simple chants also provide a way of praying when one is alone, during the day or at night, or even in the silence of one's heart while one is working." - Brother Roger of Taizé - founder of Prayer Community Questions - Frank Coyle fpcoyle[at]faradic.net |
